Valentines heart shaped sugar cookies

Valentines heart shaped sugar cookies

Valentines day comes once a year on February 14th. It's a time to care and show love to your friends, family members, and loved ones. Making Valentine's heart shaped cookies shows how much love went into making these beautiful cookies for that special person(s) in your life. Of course you can also make these cookies for other occasions at any time of the year. They make perfect sweetheart cookies, party treats, and just to show someone you love them.

These cookies are made with a sugar dough that is out of this world. They are not too sweet like your regular sugar cookie dough. First you will make the sugar dough.  To get the recipe and instructions for making the sugar cookie dough, click here.  Then you can decorate them with icing or cream cheese frosting. In this video I show how to decorate them with cream cheese frosting. To learn how to make cream cheese frosting, click here.

Here is the video demonstration showing some decoration techniques, followed by the ingredients, equipment and directions below.

Equipment:
Heart shaped cookie cutters, spatula, disposable pastry bags with pastry tips (round, star, and French tips), parchment paper or silpat, cookie tray, knife, rolling pin.

Ingredients:
Sugar cookie dough
Cream cheese frosting
Sprinkles

Step by step recipe:

1. Sprinkle and spread out the flour on your work area, so that the dough does not stick. Take your sugar cookie dough out of the refrigerator and place them on your work space. Then sprinkle some flour on top of the dough and gentle press down with the palms of your hand. Then use your rolling pin to flatten out the cookie dough to your desired thickness.

2. Place your parchment paper or silpat on your cookie tray. Now take your heart shaped cookie cutter and press firmly into the dough to make your cuts. Lift the cutter, pick up the cookie dough with your spatula and place it on your cookie tray. Then bake your cookies for 20 minutes on 375F or 190C. Allow them to cool before starting to decorate them.

3. Once you have made your cream cheese frosting take out a portion and place in a bowl. The remaining cream cheese can be colored red with food coloring. Just add 20 drops or more of food coloring to get the desired red color that you wish. You can also make other colors if you wish to decorate with.

4. Use two disposable bags and different pastry tips to decorate your cookies. Please refer to the video for decoration techniques. You can be creative and use sprinkles or any method you like.

These heart shaped valentines cookies are delicious with tea or coffee.  Here are some pictures of the cookies I made so you can get some decoration ideas.  Don't forget to Tweet, Google+ or Facebook Like this recipe up on top. Enjoy!!

  4. Nadia, I just love your recipes, they are easy to use and understand. I have made all of your recipes and I just wanted to say thank you. Everyone that has tasted the sugar dough recipe loved it, I made the chocolate cream and piped a rosette on the top of a disk of sugar dough. Your Yule Log Cake went very quickly as we had 80 people to cater for at Christmas 2013. I had wonderful reviews about that, and even a few people asked for the recipe. I have taken photos of everything I have made and am very pleased with the results. Thank you again.
